Jooji
About Jooji
Jooji clothing is sewn from a fabric, which is primarily made from the traditional Japanese paper known as “Washi”. To which is added, the natural extract from the leaf of a bamboo plant native to Japan that is known throughout history for its anti-bacterial, deodorizing, and medicinal qualities.
Absorbency
Washi used in our fabrics absorbs moisture into its fibers and retains it keeping us dry and thereby naturally regulating our level of comfort. One of Washi paper’s traditional uses in Japan is the opaque window of the Shoji sliding door that separates rooms in a Japanese home; when it is humid the Washi absorbs moisture and thereby keeps the room comfortable.
Thermo-regulating
Just as the Shoji sliding doors mentioned above keep a room comfortable when it is humid, they also keep a room warm in the winter as they insulate it from the cold, as will your Jooji t-shirt; which acts as a thermo-regulator for the body in all seasons.
Naturally Anti-bacterial & Deodorizing
The Jooji range of fabrics are not treated with chemicals because they don’t need to be. Through a patented process, the flakes of a bamboo leaf in the fabric retain their natural anti-bacterial and deodorizing functions wash after wash, thus keeping your Jooji products clean and fresh. In fact, it is for this reason, apart from its uses in medicines and teas for medicinal purposes in Japan, this leaf is placed under Sushi and Sashimi in Japanese restaurants because of its proven effectiveness in preventing the proliferation of bacteria.
Non-irritating
Fabric such as cotton are often made with both short and long fibers, with the short fibers leaving a fine “fuzz” on a garment surface, and this may stimulate the surface of our skin. With Jooji products, long strips of Washi are twisted into yarn and then knitted/woven to create our fabrics, leaving it virtually “fuzz” free. For this reason, Jooji garments do not stimulate and are therefore beneficial for people with sensitive skin, and our garments block up to 90% of harmful UV rays, a function not found in any other natural fabric unless it has treated.
Jooji Towels
Water and oil separate in natural conditions but WASHI is able to absorb water as well as oil. This eliminates the need for soap if you use a Jooji towel. It takes away unnecessary oil from your skin and effectively massages and helps your skin look young and radiant. Washi can also absorb twice as much water as cotton.
Caring For Your Jooji Products
You’ve got to be wondering how one can wash an article of clothing that is made mostly from paper and still expect it to remain intact; Washi is no ordinary paper, it is used for Shoji sliding doors, fans and lampshades, and the Japanese Yen, as Washi is designed to be highly water-resistant. These products are washable at home at 30°. All we ask is that you do not use bleach or detergents that contain bleach, and we recommend you use a “washing net bag”. Please do not tumbledry any Jooji items and iron on a cool setting.
